OVO Transactions Surge 79 Percent During Suhoor, Food and Beverage Dominates Offline
JAKARTA — OVO digital wallet, operated by PT Visionet Internasional, recorded notably high transaction volumes during suhoor hours throughout Ramadhan.
Transactions around 03:00–05:00 increased significantly by 79 percent compared to periods outside Ramadhan.
Chief Operating Officer Eddie Martono stated that the distinctive atmosphere during this month has also altered the daily activity rhythm of the public.
“OVO has observed a shift in the pattern of public transaction activity during Ramadhan. Based on analysis of user transaction data through mid-Ramadhan this year, it is evident that digital activity increasingly concentrates during the night and towards suhoor,” Eddie said in an official statement on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
He noted that this condition is consistent with trends recorded during previous Ramadhan periods.
This consistent rise in transactions demonstrates that suhoor is no longer merely a moment to eat before fasting, but has developed into an active time for the public to complete various digital needs, ranging from shopping, accessing entertainment, to paying routine bills.
During suhoor, public digital activity increased not only in the number of transactions but also showed changes in the type of requirements, where various practical transaction needs were increasingly conducted in the early hours.
“Overall, online transactions during suhoor increased by up to 76 percent, driven by e-commerce shopping activity which grew twofold,” he said.
Meanwhile, for purchases such as mobile credit and bill payments, there was a recorded increase of more than twofold compared to periods outside Ramadhan.
“Users also utilise the suhoor moment to enjoy brief entertainment before their activities. Game voucher purchases recorded a 58 percent increase, whilst digital entertainment services surged 36 percent,” he continued.
He stated that Ramadhan demonstrates how the public adjusts its activity rhythm, including the way it conducts transactions.
Suhoor is now utilised not only for dining but also for completing various digital needs such as bill payments or mobile credit purchases.
In response to this shift, OVO introduced various promotional offers during suhoor and transaction conveniences to enable users to utilise the early morning hours not merely for suhoor meals, but also to complete digital needs practically.
He explained that public preferences regarding food during suhoor also demonstrate an interesting pattern.
