Overdose victim dumped at river

JAKARTA (JP): A young man died of a drug overdose on Tuesday afternoon, an hour after he was found unconscious near Ciliwung River in Menteng subdistrict, Central Jakarta, a witness and a doctor said.

Faulana, a resident of Jl. Matraman Dalam, Pegangsaan, Central Jakarta, said a man on a motorcycle placed the victim on the ground close to his house at 1 p.m. and then rode off. When Faulana approached the man he found he was foaming at the mouth.

"I and some friends of mine were playing the guitar in front of my house, when two men on a motorcycle stopped near the river. The driver then got the other one off the motorcycle and fled," Faulana told reporters at the emergency unit of Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital.

Faulana said it happened so fast that they could not see the registration number of the motorcycle clearly.

"It was a black motorcycle, but we couldn't tell its brand nor read its number plate.

"He was not a resident of this area," he added.

The victim, identified only as Jajat, was in his 20s and approximately 1.7 meter tall, skinny and dark with short curly hair. He was wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans. The body had no distinguishing marks.

A doctor at the emergency unit said the victim had probably taken a large amount of putaw (low-grade heroin). (01)
