Over 500 Mud Points in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra Cleared
The Task Force (Satgas) for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster reports that more than 500 mud points resulting from landslides and floods in Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar) have been cleared, allowing residents’ activities to gradually return to normal.
Data from Satgas PRR on 6 April records that 527 disaster-affected locations buried in mud have been fully cleared. The breakdown is as follows: in Aceh, 480 locations have been cleared out of 519 targeted sites. In Sumut, 18 locations have been cleared out of 24 targeted sites. Meanwhile, in Sumbar, all 29 targeted locations have been fully cleared.
The current achievement shows that more than 92 percent of mud-buried locations due to hydrometeorological disasters in Sumatra have been successfully cleared. This progress also indicates advancement in mud clearance compared to 2 April 2026, when only 445 locations had been cleared of mud.
The Head of the Task Force (Kasatgas) for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Post-Sumatra Disaster, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, emphasised that mud clearance remains a priority in Sumatra’s post-disaster recovery.
“The main target is to resolve issues still affected by mud, some of which has hardened, including historical sites (Istana Benua Raja), as well as residents’ homes, drainage, and others,” Tito stated in a written remark on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
The clearance process is conducted in two phases. The first phase focused on opening national road access, which has been 100 percent completed and functionally reopened since 25 January 2026.
Meanwhile, in the second phase, activities will target mud clearance focusing on three types of locations: schools, office areas, and public facilities such as puskesmas, mosques, and others.
Satgas PRR has also specifically deployed Praja from the Institute of Domestic Government (IPDN) to assist with mud clearance in Aceh Tamiang Regency. The third wave of IPDN Praja was deployed on Saturday (4/4), comprising 731 personnel accompanied by 37 civil servants (ASN) from the Ministry of Home Affairs to clear mud at 42 locations, including residential areas, drainage, as well as public and social facilities.
