Outcry over 30kg of methamphetamine said to melt in the heat; police respond.
Jakarta – The social media world was stirred by reports that 30 kilograms of methamphetamine had disappeared, allegedly melting due to hot weather. The narrative even dragged in the name of Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
The information circulated via a post on the X account @tanyakanrl and immediately drew the attention of netizens. Many questioned its veracity.
The police moved quickly to clarify. The Head of the Public Relations Division of the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Johnny Edizzon Isir, asserted that the report was not true.
‘This is misinformation,’ he said, on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.
He stressed that there has never been an official statement from the Bhayangkara Corps indicating that narcotics evidence such as meth could disappear due to heat or disintegrate into air. The clarification was also issued via the official X account @DivHumas_Polri, which replied directly to the post.
‘Every narcotics evidence item is recorded, secured, tested forensics in accordance with strict legal procedures, including layered supervision up to the official destruction process. The statement that endorses the Police Chief’s name in this posting is hoax and not sourced from Polri’s official statements,’ read the reply from the official X account @DivHumas_Polri in the comment section of the post.
Polri ensures that all narcotics evidence is handled with strict procedures and layered oversight, from recording to destruction. Johnny also reminded the public not to be easily provoked by information whose sources are unclear. He urged the public to be more prudent and to improve digital literacy before trusting or sharing such news online.
