Origins of the Exposure of the Student Harassment Group Chat at FH UI, Perpetrator Leaks to Victims
DEPOK, KOMPAS.com - The case of alleged sexual harassment experienced by 27 victims at the hands of 16 students from the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law (UI) originated from the leak of the perpetrators’ group chat. One member of the group chat, who was also a perpetrator, leaked the information to the victims. “Initially, one of the group members, for some reason, ended up leaking that information to the victims,” said the victims’ legal counsel, Timotius Rajagukguk, when met on the UI campus in Depok, West Java, on Tuesday (14/4/2026). “There was a situation that ultimately forced him to do so,” he added. However, Timotius did not explain the reason why the perpetrator felt compelled to leak the group’s conversation contents. The information about the group chat and its contents was first leaked by the perpetrator in 2025. However, the details of the group’s contents were not conveyed at that time. With the leak of this information, the victims have known since 2025 that they were the objects of the alleged sexual harassment. “That’s why when they see it, it definitely hurts, saddens them, breaks their hearts, embarrasses them, and so on,” said Timo. “But even if they wanted to report it at that time, they would surely think, ‘Is this one chat enough for us to report?’” he explained. The victims then admitted to trying to be patient. “They (the victims) hoped that this would be the last time for them (the perpetrators) to act like this, and it wouldn’t continue. But in fact, it didn’t stop, which is why this year they decided to take action,” he continued. The victims eventually attempted to gather the available evidence. Ultimately, the perpetrator leaked the full contents of the group chat to the victims. From the evidence available, it was then investigated together by the victims and their legal counsel.
