JAKARTA – Naming a vehicle product is not merely about aesthetics but also reflects the character that the company wishes to convey. This principle applies to Tyranno, the electric motorcycle from Indomobil Emotor, which features a masculine appearance. Indomobil Emotor’s designer, Nono Sumarno, affectionately known as Mang No, explained that the name is inspired by a strong and tough figure. According to him, this character was intentionally chosen to depict a motorcycle ready for use on various road conditions, particularly for adventure needs. Mang No stated that, besides the name, the selection of drive technology was also a key consideration. Indomobil Emotor chose to use a hub drive system in the rear wheel instead of a mid-drive, which places the motor in the centre like the popular Gesits electric motorcycle. “As for mid-drive, apologies, but it’s not yet available in our electric motorcycles. We use hub motors, which can be commonly applied to several other motorcycles,” said Mang No. The use of hub drive offers greater flexibility, where a single system can be used across various models, making production and development processes more efficient. “That’s correct, and to be honest, mid-drive is more expensive. We’re concerned that the price wouldn’t be affordable for consumers,” he added. “Because electric motorcycles are already quite expensive, but in the future, it will still be a consideration,” said Mang No.
