Jakarta — The Chair of Indonesia’s Ombudsman Commission (ORI), Mokhammad Najih, has reaffirmed that the Ombudsman’s 26-year journey represents an important moment to strengthen the institution’s commitment to overseeing public service delivery across Indonesia.

During the ORI’s 26th anniversary commemoration ceremony in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March, Najih stated that future public service challenges will grow increasingly complex, requiring the Ombudsman to become more adaptive, responsive, and proactive in responding to public complaints regarding alleged maladministration.

“This commemoration is not merely ceremonial, but serves as a reminder to the Ombudsman to continue strengthening integrity, professionalism, and independence in executing its public service oversight function,” Najih said, as confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He therefore called upon all personnel of the Ombudsman RI, both at the central office and regional representative offices, to continuously improve work quality and maintain public trust in the Ombudsman.

The 26th anniversary of the Ombudsman RI is expected to serve not only as an occasion for institutional reflection, but also as a moment to strengthen the collective spirit of all Ombudsman RI staff in delivering increasingly effective, transparent, and accountable public service oversight to the community.

With this commitment, Najih hopes that ORI will continue to strengthen its role as an independent, professional, and publicly trusted public service oversight body.

The Ombudsman RI functions to oversee public service delivery by state administrators, central and local government, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), private entities, or individuals utilising state budget funds.

Its primary objectives are to eradicate maladministration, improve the quality of public services, and protect citizens’ rights to receive fair and transparent service delivery.

The anniversary ceremony was led directly by the Chair of the Ombudsman RI and attended by leadership and staff throughout the ORI. The event was also attended by Deputy Chair of the Ombudsman RI Bobby Hamzar Rafinus and Secretary General of the Ombudsman RI Suganda Pasaribu, along with other Ombudsman RI officials and staff.
