Organic Waste Permitted to Enter Suwung Landfill Twice a Week as a Solution
Head of the Bali-Nusra Environment Control Centre (PPLH) Ni Nyoman Santi stated that the option of disposing of organic waste at the Suwung landfill twice a week serves as a solution to facilitate waste handling in Bali. This follows protests by hundreds of waste truck drivers.
“This is the first key that will greatly facilitate subsequent waste handling,” Santi said when met at the PPLH Bali-Nusra office on Thursday (16/4/2026).
Santi also touched on the leachate resulting from organic waste at the TPST. She noted that its handling is currently under restriction.
She appreciated the public for independently sorting their waste. This is a positive signal that Bali is ready for waste handling and management.
“Every policy that is implemented will certainly be evaluated, then improved together to find the right formula,” she explained.
The Ministry and local government will also discuss the schedule for sending organic waste on which days to make it regular.
“It’s not difficult, meaning all inputs are listened to by the government. The real conditions on the ground and the challenges on the ground are all heard,” Santi elaborated.
“Of course, the Governor is also coordinating, and the Minister is monitoring,” she added.
Previously, the Bali Self-Managed Waste Communication Forum (SSB), as the waste transport service, was permitted to send organic waste to the Suwung landfill twice a week. This was the result of discussions held with Bali Governor Wayan Koster, Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa, and Denpasar Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara at the Bali-Nusra Environment Control Centre office in Renon, Denpasar, on Thursday (16/4/2026).
Secretary of Forkom SSB, I Wayan Tedi, said that the two-hour discussion involved quite heated debates.
“We finally agreed on a win-win solution where the Minister allows us, as self-managed waste transport services, to send organic waste, both wet and dry organic waste, twice a week from 8am to 8pm,” Tedi stated.
Tedi conveyed that this agreement takes effect starting tomorrow, Friday (17/4/2026). Subsequently, Forkom SSB will arrange the schedule for which days to send organic waste to the Suwung landfill.
