Organda proposes private terminal

JAKARTA: The Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda) is proposing the construction of an integrated bus terminal as the current terminals in Jakarta are inadequate and the government has no money to construct a new one.

"As the current terminals cannot accommodate city buses, a number of illegal terminals have sprung up in many parts of the city," chairman of Organda Jakarta, Aip Syarifuddin told Antara on Friday.

He said that the illegal bus terminals should not be allowed to continue to operate as hoodlums take advantage of the situation to extort money from drivers and they also worsen traffic jams in many parts of the city.

According to him, the illegal terminals also disrupt the system as drivers prefer to take passengers at the illegal ones rather than spending a long time lining up at the official terminals.

He said that Organda was willing to help the government in tackling the problem, by developing an integrated bus terminal under an effective management. --JP
