Eid is just around the corner. Whilst residents enjoy their holiday, the ‘Orange Squad’ (sanitation workers) at the Padang City Environmental Health Service (DLH) will do the opposite. They will continue working without leave during Eid.

This was confirmed directly by Padang City Environmental Health Service Head, Fadelan Fitra Masta, during a monthly meeting within Padang Municipal Government via video conference on Monday, 16 March. Fadelan emphasised that his office would continuously deploy officers from the start of Eid until the holiday period concludes.

“Yes, the ‘Orange Squad’ will have no leave during Eid,” he stated.

Fadelan said that 1,176 sanitation workers will be on duty during Eid and the holiday period. Additionally, 478 waste collection operators will also work without leave during Eid.

“Waste collection operators will only have a day off from collecting household waste on 1 Syawal, because on that day, the operators are assigned to clean the mosque areas and fields used for Eid prayers,” explained the DLH Head.

The DLH sanitation workers will continue sweeping operations during Eid Day. In the early morning before Eid prayers, the sweeping team will continue working. Similarly, after Eid prayers conclude, the cleaning team will operate to clean specific locations.

“Waste generation is estimated to increase by 15 to 20 per cent during this Eid,” said Fadelan.

Fadelan predicted that the increase in waste generation would occur in tourist areas, food establishments, and crowded locations. The waste will be collected by the ‘Orange Squad’ and transported to the landfill.

This anticipatory step is crucial to create a safe and conducive city situation.
