Oracle Lays Off 30,000 Employees, Dismissal Emails Sent at 5:00 AM
Global technology company Oracle is reported to have carried out a massive round of layoffs affecting tens of thousands of employees worldwide. According to circulating reports, the number of impacted employees is estimated at around 30,000 globally, or approximately 18% of Oracle’s total workforce. Of that number, around 12,000 laid-off employees are said to be located in India, according to a report by the Asian News International (ANI). However, the company has yet to provide official confirmation. Affected employees reportedly received emails in the early morning, between 5 and 6 AM local time, with no prior notification from HR teams or managers. The emails were allegedly sent directly by “Oracle Leadership” and stated that the employees’ positions would be eliminated immediately. In some cases, employees’ access to the company’s internal systems was reportedly revoked shortly after the dismissal emails were sent. Several affected Oracle employees subsequently shared their experiences on social media platforms such as Reddit and X (formerly Twitter). “Just received the email at 5 AM after more than 20 years of service, unbelievable,” wrote one user, as quoted by KompasTekno from IndiaToday. Another user wrote, “I was also laid off. Exactly at 6 AM, even though next month marks four years of service.” The company stated that the action was taken to simplify its operations, rendering certain positions no longer necessary. Meanwhile, a user on platform X said that the staff reductions at Oracle occurred on a large scale at the team level. He claimed to have received information from a friend who is a senior manager at Oracle that out of 20 team members, six were asked to leave. The affected employees reportedly received severance packages consisting of 15 days’ salary for each year of service, one month’s salary in lieu of notice, as well as payouts for leave and bonuses.
