Optimise Worker Protection Through Strengthened Collaboration Between BPJS Entities
Every worker has the right to social security protection, including guaranteed coverage and swift medical treatment in the event of a suspected workplace accident or occupational disease. To this end, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and BPJS Kesehatan are collaborating to accelerate the provision of healthcare services for workers.
The Chief Executive of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Saiful Hidayat, emphasised that collaboration between BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and BPJS Kesehatan represents a strategic step in strengthening comprehensive worker protection across Indonesia.
According to him, the integration of these service systems not only accelerates the claims process, but also ensures workers receive healthcare services quickly, accurately, and without administrative obstacles.
“This collaboration aligns with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s 3C strategy, namely expanding Coverage, strengthening Care, and increasing Credibility in employment social security services. Through inter-agency synergies and system integration, we want to ensure more workers are protected, receive fast and quality services when facing occupational risks, whilst also building public confidence in the national social security system,” stated Saiful following a meeting with Chief Executive of BPJS Kesehatan, Prihati Pujowaskito on Saturday (14 March).
Saiful emphasised that strengthening system interoperability with BPJS Kesehatan is a crucial component of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s service transformation, particularly in handling suspected workplace accidents and occupational diseases. With an integrated system, the process of verifying participants, guaranteeing services, and monitoring case handling can be conducted more quickly, accurately, and transparently.
“The ultimate goal is to ensure every worker who experiences a suspected workplace accident or occupational disease receives swift medical treatment without having to navigate complicated administrative processes. Worker protection must be present in reality when they need it,” Saiful added.
Through Government Regulation Number 49 of 2023, the government has strengthened the mechanism for handling suspected workplace accidents and occupational diseases, assigning BPJS Ketenagakerjaan the role of primary guarantor in managing such cases.
Chief Executive of BPJS Kesehatan Prihati Pujowaskito explained that integration between BPJS Kesehatan’s systems and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s systems has been completed, allowing the service guarantee process to run more reliably and transparently.
“System interoperability between BPJS Kesehatan and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has recently been implemented, enabling every worker suspected of experiencing workplace accidents (KK) or occupational diseases (PAK) to receive faster treatment,” clarified Pujo.
Pujo explained that healthcare facilities can now obtain clarity on handling procedures for suspected KK/PAK cases through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s e-PLKK application, which is integrated with BPJS Kesehatan’s system. This system synchronisation is expected to increase guarantee accuracy, as all participant information is digitally verified.
According to Pujo, it cannot be denied that some workers and healthcare facilities remain confused when handling suspected KK/PAK cases in the field. With the use of the e-PLKK application by healthcare facilities, workers with suspected KK/PAK can now receive medical services immediately, without waiting for lengthy administrative processes.
In addition to discussing plans to update the Memorandum of Understanding on KK/PAK, the meeting also covered data synchronisation plans between institutions and plans to improve compliance among social security participants by involving the Directorate General of Taxes through collaborative measures going forward.
“We regularly evaluate and refine this system integration. We plan to update the Memorandum of Understanding on KK/PAK to ensure its field implementation can be further improved,” he concluded.
