Opposition official to go on trial

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): A Malaysian opposition party official went
on trial Monday for leaking secret reports of Anti-Corruption
Agency (ACA) investigations into two leading ruling party
figures.

Mohamad Ezam Mohamad Noor is accused of possessing "classified
documents pertaining to the ACA investigation" into Minister of
International Trade and Industry Rafidah Aziz and former Malacca
state chief minister Rahim Tamby Chik.

Mohamad Ezam is youth chief of the National Justice Party
founded by the wife of jailed ex-deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim and
is also a former aide to Anwar.

He allegedly committed the offense last Nov. 6 at a press
conference at party headquarters, during which he distributed
copies of the documents to reporters. The offense is punishable
by a minimum of one year's jail and a maximum of seven.
