The East Nusa Tenggara Police (Polda NTT) have launched Operation Ketupat Turangga 2026 to ensure the smooth and safe journey of Eid al-Fitr holiday travellers for 1447 Hijriah.

A military parade and briefing, led by NTT Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Darmoko on Thursday 12 March morning, conveyed the mandate of the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. The operation represents a readiness check of personnel, equipment, and infrastructure, and demonstrates cross-sectoral cooperation between the National Police (Polri), military (TNI), the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Meteorological and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Pertamina, Jasa Raharja, Jasa Marga, Civil Service Police, Transportation Offices, and related agencies.

In his mandate, the National Police Chief emphasised that the activity aims to ensure that citizens undertaking Eid travel arrive safely, comfortably, and in an orderly manner. “The success of Operation Ketupat is our shared responsibility. Together we shall realise safe travel and happy families,” the NTT Police Chief stated when delivering the mandate.

According to a Ministry of Transportation survey, population movement during Eid 2026 is estimated to reach 143.9 million people, a slight decrease compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, officials remain vigilant against a surge in travellers, particularly due to various transport incentives and work-from-anywhere (WFA) policies.

The National Police have prepared 161,243 combined personnel and 2,746 security posts, comprising traffic control posts, service posts, and integrated posts serving as information and service centres. Security focus also covers 185,607 vital objects, including mosques, Eid prayer locations, shopping centres, terminals, ports, railway stations, and airports.

Peak outbound travel is predicted to occur on 14-15 March and 18-19 March 2026, whilst peak return travel is forecast for 24-25 March and a second wave on 28-29 March 2026.

All security measures are focused on ensuring safe and smooth Eid travel, whilst minimising public order disturbances, traffic accidents, and hydrometeorological disaster risks.

The National Police Chief also emphasised the importance of public communication and responsive service, including optimisation of the police 110 emergency service, so that citizens remain informed and secure during their journey.

With the launch of Operation Ketupat Turangga 2026, Polda NTT reaffirms its full commitment to overseeing outbound and return holiday traffic during Eid, ensuring every traveller can celebrate Eid al-Fitr peacefully and happily.

Polda NTT has deployed full strength ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026. Coordination with various related agencies involves 3,068 personnel, comprising 1,144 National Police members and 1,924 personnel from related agencies.

“In this operation, we have established 91 service posts, 38 security posts, 27 integrated posts, and 20 other posts. Security focus also includes vital objects, including 14 airports, 38 ports, 28 terminals, 56 shopping centres, 201 mosques with estimated 91,386 worshippers, and 46 prayer facilities with estimated approximately 123,000 worshippers,” said the Head of NTT Police Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Henry Novika Chandra.

He added that the operation emphasises detection, prevention, and deterrence steps based on the principle of last resort. “We also anticipate conventional crime, gang violence, and illegal racing, which will be firmly prosecuted in accordance with regulations,” he said.

Polda NTT hopes that all citizens can celebrate Eid al-Fitr and travel safely, comfortably, and securely. “So that we can all celebrate Eid al-Fitr happily,” he concluded.
