Operation against sharp weapons
JAKARTA (JP): The North Jakarta police precinct has launched a
daily around-the-clock operation against sharp weapons in a
number of areas prone to crimes, including the sea port, bus
terminals and other busy business centers, ahead of Christmas and
New Year.
Lt. Col. Rismawan, head of the police precinct, said on Monday
that he was determined to keep security in North Jakarta under
control during the year's end.
Rismawan was quoted by Antara as saying that the operation is
aimed at reducing the number of crimes, North Jakarta is at
present is fourth out of the city's nine police precincts for
crime rate.
"Anyone found carrying sharp weapons during the operation will
be questioned," he said.
Data shows that there were 169 crimes committed in North
Jakarta last month, of which 88 have already been settled, he
said.
He explained that the highest number of crimes involved
robbery with violence and the lowest were sexual crimes and
