Opened Strongly, IHSG Reverses and Slips into Red Zone
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) opened stronger at the start of trading on Thursday (26/3/2026), but reversed to weaken as selling pressure once again dominated the market. Based on data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) around 09:20 WIB, the IHSG was at the level of 7,269.88, down 32.24 points (-0.44%) from the previous close. At the opening, the IHSG briefly strengthened to 7,313.66 and moved in the range of 7,260.86 to 7,323.70 throughout the session so far. However, that strengthening did not last long, and the index reversed into the red zone. Trading activity was observed to be quite brisk. Transaction volume reached 8.345 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp21.44 trillion and a trading frequency of around 347,800 times. Several indices also weakened. The LQ45 Index fell 0.47% to 742.96, while the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) corrected 1.17% to 485.66. The Kompas100 Index also weakened 0.56% to 1,007.79. Meanwhile, the Indonesia Sharia Stock Index (ISSI) dropped 0.71% to 255.90. Capital market observer and Founder of Republik Investor, Hendra Wardana, noted that the IHSG has the potential to strengthen by testing the 7,339 area, with resistance at 7,400. If the index can break through that area with increased volume, there is a chance for the IHSG to move towards the 7,450-7,500 area in the short term. However, if it fails to break 7,400, the index could consolidate first in the 7,200-7,400 range. “However, if it fails to break 7,400, then the IHSG has the potential to consolidate first in the 7,200-7,400 range,” said Hendra when contacted by Kompas.com on Wednesday evening (25/3/2026). The majority of Asian exchanges moving in the green zone served as the main external catalyst. Meanwhile, foreign fund inflows returning, although not yet significant, also supported the index’s strengthening. This condition provides an early signal that investor interest in risk assets is starting to reform, though not yet fully solid.
