Open Unemployment Rate at 3.62 Percent, Majalengka Firmly Committed to Eradicating Middlemen
The open unemployment rate in Majalengka Regency currently stands at 3.62 percent. This figure is lower than the West Java provincial average of 6.66 percent.
This achievement serves as a positive indicator and motivation for the local government to continue expanding job access for the community. “To date, the absorption of workers in Majalengka Regency has reached 12,000 during my tenure as Regent of Majalengka,” explained Regent Eman Suherman this past weekend.
He reaffirmed the Majalengka Regency Government’s commitment to accelerating the absorption of local workers through the optimisation of the Matahati (Masyarakat Cepat Kerja) programme. This programme is designed to create a transparent and accountable recruitment system free from illegal levies (pungli).
Eman stated that the local government has established close collaboration with the industrial sector in Majalengka. Through an official circular, all companies are required to allocate direct recruitment quotas to the local government to ensure that local workers are the top priority.
“Our focus is on breaking the chain of middlemen that has long troubled the community. We ask companies to conduct integrated recruitment through the government system,” he said.
He also warned that firm action, including criminal legal proceedings, will be taken if individuals involved in illegal levy practices in worker recruitment are found. “As long as strong evidence is provided, we will take firm action against illegal levies or middlemen with clear data and facts,” Eman stated.
In addition to promoting transparency, the Matahati programme also emphasises several strategic aspects. These include increasing job opportunities for male workers in the industrial sector, strengthening work readiness through mental and skills training, and efficiency for companies in obtaining competent workers without third-party interference.
