Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq has emphasised that the government will close all open dumping practices in Indonesia. To date, the Ministry of Environment has closed only 30% of the total 485 Final Processing Sites (TPA).

“The remaining approximately 69%, or nearly 70%, around 369 TPAs across the country, including TPA Suwung,” Hanif stated during his visit to the Final Processing Site (TPA) Suwung and the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) Tahura Ngurah Rai I, Denpasar, Bali, on Friday (17/4/2026).

Hanif mentioned the 63.41% waste management target as stipulated in the latest National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), regulated under Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 12 of 2025.

“That figure can only be achieved if we close all open dumping practices in the country,” Hanif said.

In addition to ending open dumping practices, Hanif added that improving waste quality through sorting must be carried out concurrently across Indonesia.

He emphasised that the policy is implemented without exception, including for regions with fiscal limitations. However, the government will consider support such as heavy equipment assistance, which is currently still in the further learning stage.

“Tonight I return to Jakarta, tomorrow morning we will declare the same for North Jakarta. Perhaps two-three weeks after that, all of Jakarta is also required to complete waste sorting,” Hanif explained.

“Because we also asked Mr Pramono Anung for TPA Bantargebang to only accept inorganic waste by August. So these steps are taken evenly without exception,” Hanif added.

Hanif affirmed that Bali receives attention on several matters. “Bali, from our evaluation, also receives special attention from Mr President. Therefore, we will apply pressure on several matters. So that what is mandated by Mr President can be carried out as best as possible, to the maximum,” Hanif revealed.
