Only 12 boxers show up at Ragunan

JAKARTA (JP): Only 12 of the 28 boxers called by the Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (Pertina) for the Kuala Lumpur 2001 SEA Games showed up at the Ragunan boxing camp in South Jakarta.

"I don't know why the other boxers haven't come yet. The official announcements were sent to the Pertina provincial chapters in the places where they live," Pertina's technical commission head Ferry Moniaga was quoted as saying by Antara on Thursday.

"Pertina, however, will give the remaining 16 boxers until Nov. 8 to join the camp. We have no other choice but to replace them with others if they fail to meet the deadline," he added.

Indonesia will send boxers in all boxing weight classes except the super heavyweight class in the Games.

Ferry said most of the boxers were champions in the Surabaya National Games (PON). (nvn)
