An online taxi driver was allegedly assaulted in Setu, South Tangerang, Banten. The suspect, a serving soldier of the Indonesian Army (TNI AD), has been arrested. The attack went viral on social media, as reported by detikcom on Wednesday 4 March 2026. In the circulating video, the assailant is seen hitting the victim with punches and kicks, and even throwing him to the asphalt. The driver’s hands are seen cuffed. At one point, the suspect is seen brandishing an object suspected to be a pistol toward the taxi driver’s head. Several bystanders are seen attempting to intervene. The Army’s Public Information Service (Kadispenad) Brigadier General Donny Pramono confirmed that the man who assaulted the online taxi driver is a TNI AD soldier. The incident occurred on Sunday (1 March) last. Donny said Denpom Jaya/1 Tangerang coordinated with Polres South Tangerang regarding the incident. By Monday night (2 March), the involved soldier had been detained at Madenpom Jaya/1 Tangerang. Preliminary investigations indicate that the dispute stemmed from a vehicle swerve. Donny noted that the object briefly brandished by the suspect was a wooden toy pistol. “Currently the soldier involved has been secured and is being questioned by Denpom Jaya/1 Tangerang. We assure that the legal process will proceed in accordance with applicable regulations, including chronology assessment, witness statements, and evidence collection,” Donny said in a statement on Wednesday 4 March. The soldier is still under investigation. Donny emphasised that the TNI AD will be prosecuted if found guilty and will face strict sanctions under law and military discipline. “If found to have breached, the individual will be prosecuted firmly under the law and military discipline. The TNI AD remains committed to maintaining public trust and the professionalism of its soldiers through transparent and accountable enforcement mechanisms,” he added.
