Bogor Regency (ANTARA) — The Bogor Regency Government in West Java assisted 21,579 households affected by disasters throughout 2025, during the first year of leadership under Regent Rudy Susmanto and Deputy Regent Ade Ruhandi.

Bogor Regency Secretary Ajat Rochmat Jatnika said in Cibinong on Tuesday that the handling of thousands of households was part of the local government’s response to 1,826 disaster events occurring across 40 sub-districts and 363 villages throughout 2025.

Ajat explained that the first test of Rudy-Ade’s leadership came when a series of hydrometeorological disasters struck the Puncak area and several other regions in early March 2025. The disasters severed road and bridge access at multiple points.

“At the start of our term, we were immediately confronted with disasters in the Puncak area and several other regions. The Regent instructed all regional apparatus to move swiftly and declared an emergency response status to expedite the handling efforts,” said Ajat.

At least seven bridges were severed by the disasters. One was on the Citeureup–Sukamakmur main road, specifically in Tajur Village, Citeureup Sub-district. The remaining six were in the Puncak area — three of which were regency roads located in Cipayung Village (Megamendung Sub-district), Jogjogan Village (Cisarua Sub-district), and North Tugu Village (Cisarua Sub-district), whilst the other three were village roads in North Tugu Village, Cisarua Sub-district.

To restore connectivity, the Bogor Regency Government worked alongside the Indonesian military to construct Bailey bridges over approximately three weeks, carried out by personnel from the Siliwangi Military Area Command III, the 061/Suryakancana Military Resort Command, and the 0621/Bogor Regency Military District Command. All severed access routes were reconnected ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2025.

Ajat added that the accelerated construction of emergency bridges was undertaken to ensure public access returned to normal before Eid al-Fitr, facilitating residents’ traditional visits during Lebaran whilst also smoothing economic activity in the affected areas.

Beyond restoring access, during the initial phase in March 2025, a total of 401 households were temporarily displaced due to flooding and landslides. The local government established evacuation posts and communal kitchens, and distributed logistical aid including rice, ready-to-eat meals, mineral water, blankets, mattresses, and baby supplies.

Overall, of the 1,826 disaster events throughout 2025, a total of 77,065 individuals were affected and 5,146 residents were displaced. The most frequently handled disaster type was strong winds with 919 events, followed by landslides with 588 events and flooding with 162 events.

In terms of impact, 30 people lost their lives and thousands of homes sustained damage ranging from minor to severe. The local government continues to strengthen its response system through the optimisation of the Single Emergency Call Number 112 service, which operates 24 hours a day and is integrated across agencies.

He affirmed that the reflection on the first year of leadership demonstrates that the high frequency of disasters in Bogor Regency has been matched by responsive action from the local government in emergency handling, access restoration, and the strengthening of future mitigation efforts.
