One of Two Children Swept Away by Waves at Ampenan Beach Found Dead
Search and Rescue (SAR) teams have found one of two children swept away by waves at Ampenan Beach in Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The victim, Pietro Lionel Alesandro Seda (13), was found floating by a joint SAR team at 8:30 AM WITA on Saturday, 30 May, approximately one kilometre north of the initial incident location (Last Known Position/LKP) at Skip Beach, Ampenan. After being evacuated from the sea, the body was transported to Mataram City’s Bhayangkara Hospital using the SAR Mataram Rescue D-Max vehicle.
Bustanil, Head of the Operations and Readiness Section at SAR Mataram, confirmed the find. “Yes, the joint SAR team located the first victim, Pietro, deceased and floating north of the initial disappearance point,” he stated at the scene on Saturday, 30 May.
Following the discovery of the first victim, all involved parties resumed searching for the second child. With Pietro found, the joint SAR team is now focusing on locating Anindita Mantika Muslim (9), the girl reported to have been swept away at Karang Buyuk Beach.
Bustanil added that today’s search operations are being optimised by dividing teams into multiple sectors, including water patrols using rubber boats and Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs), land searches along the coastline, and thermal drone surveillance to detect objects from the air.
Previously reported, both children were swept away by waves on Friday, 29 May, in near-simultaneous incidents. The SAR operation involves coordination between SAR Mataram personnel, NTB Police Brimob, NTB Police Water Unit, Ampenan Police Station, Mataram City Police, Ampenan Military Command, alongside assistance from local fishermen and residents.
