JAKARTA — A pile of rubbish approximately one metre high outside the Hanura Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Management Facility (TPS3R) on Jalan Hanura Ketapang, Krukut, Taman Sari, West Jakarta, has prompted complaints from residents due to the traffic congestion and dangers it poses to road users.

According to observations by Kompas.com at the location on Saturday (14 March 2026), the rubbish accumulation extends not only in front of the TPS3R but also stretches across the Kali Krukut Bridge adjacent to the site.

The pile of rubbish extends approximately 50 metres, reaching across the bridge. Some of it has encroached onto the roadway by around half its width.

The road, which is approximately five metres wide, has become increasingly narrow due to the rubbish piled along its sides. Consequently, vehicles from both directions must take turns passing through the remaining lane.

This situation frequently triggers vehicle queues on both sides of the bridge. Drivers often honk their horns in frustration whilst waiting for their turn to pass.

Several motorcyclists were observed covering their noses when passing through the area.

Residents reported that traffic conditions become even worse during peak hours, particularly in the morning and evening.

“Yes, it causes severe congestion, especially in the evening,” said Jupri (45), a waste collection worker interviewed by Kompas.com at the location.

Local resident Sukardi (38) stated that congestion occurs almost daily since the rubbish accumulated across the bridge.

According to him, the pile of rubbish also makes the road surface slippery when it rains.

“When the road is obstructed like this, vehicles get stuck in traffic every day. When it rains, there are many accidents, with motorcycles slipping and falling,” said Sukardi.

As a result, rubbish continues to accumulate, overflowing from the TPS3R area and spreading across the nearby bridge.

The height of the rubbish pile has reached approximately one metre.

Jupri expressed hope that waste transportation activities would resume normal operations soon to prevent the situation from worsening.

“I hope things will run smoothly and the road becomes clean again so we can work without hindrances,” he said.
