The government is currently refining and maturing a policy on working from home (WFH) for civil servants (ASN) as well as private sector workers. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that this policy is being crafted to achieve savings amid the rising global oil prices following the Middle East conflict. “Regarding the study that with high oil prices, efficiency in working hours is needed, where flexibility for work from home will be opened,” said Airlangga after a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday (19/3/2026). With the WFH system, the mobility of workers using fuel oil (BBM) will also decrease. “The savings are quite significant, one-fifth of what we usually spend,” Airlangga revealed. The government plans to implement WFH for one working day per week. However, further technical details on its implementation are still being developed by the government. “One day in five working days,” Airlangga explained. “The technicalities are being prepared, because this is expected not only for ASN but also for the private sector and regional governments. We are preparing all of this,” he emphasised. He admitted not yet knowing how long the duration of this WFH policy will be implemented. This is because it adjusts to global dynamics. However, Airlangga added that the implementation of this WFH policy is likely to begin after the 1447 Hijriah Eid al-Fitr holiday, when the technical details of the policy are complete. “Post-Lebaran, but we will determine the timing later,” he said.
