BEKASI - The Eid 2026 homecoming flow not only impacts the density of toll roads and terminals but also alters patterns in public transportation mobility. In the Bekasi area, journeys using the KRL Commuter Line to Jakarta felt faster and less crowded compared to regular days. This condition was observed on H-1 of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, Friday (20/3/2026), when most residents had already left earlier for their hometowns. As a result, the daily commuter flow from Bekasi to Jakarta saw a significant decline. Travel monitoring began from Tambun Utara, Bekasi Regency, to Bekasi Station using a motorbike. The usual travel time of 40 to 45 minutes was reduced to about 30 minutes this time. The Wisma Asri Bridge area in North Bekasi, typically congested, appeared much emptier without long vehicle queues. Upon arriving at Bekasi Station, the same atmosphere prevailed. The station area was not too crowded, especially for KRL passengers heading to Jakarta. There were no long queues at the entrances or density on the platforms. Passengers could easily board the train without pushing. Inside the KRL carriages, the atmosphere felt more spacious with many empty seats. All passengers could sit comfortably without having to stand as during rush hours. One passenger, Annisa (28), a resident of North Bekasi heading to Juanda Station, admitted to directly experiencing this change in atmosphere. “The journey is faster, no crowding, and no extra effort needed to get to the station,” said Annisa when met on platform 5 at Bekasi Station on Friday. According to her, this condition is very different from regular days, especially during work departure hours which are usually packed with passengers. This phenomenon indicates a shift in public mobility during the Eid mudik period. Many residents are leaving Jakarta’s buffer zones like Bekasi, thus reducing the commuter flow to Jakarta and making journeys less crowded.
