The head of Salam Sejahtera Nursing Home, Anna Hartawan, has assured that the management of the home she leads now increasingly prioritises human rights (HAM) principles after receiving direct attention from the Ministry of Human Rights.

Anna made this statement following allegations of human rights violations that went viral on social media and in the mass media some time ago.

“The presence of the Ministry of Human Rights has had a significant psychological impact on the residents, families, and workers. They feel there is attention and protection,” Anna told reporters on Tuesday, 24 March 2026.

She explained that the Ministry of Human Rights not only conducted monitoring but also coordinated with various parties to ensure conditions at the home operate according to humanitarian service standards.

According to Anna, this intervention has prompted the management to make several systemic improvements, including strengthening institutional governance.

“So far, we have relied heavily on a family-like approach. But after this incident, we have begun to improve the system, including record-keeping, organisational structure, and strengthening the HRD function,” she said.

The Salam Sejahtera Nursing Home, established in 1996, currently accommodates 45 elderly individuals with the support of around 38–40 workers, including caregivers, nurses, and operational staff.

In its daily operations, the home implements a structured activity pattern for residents, ranging from physical activities, therapy, to social activities such as gardening and arts to maintain the mental and physical health of the elderly.

Anna emphasised that her side also ensures health aspects are a priority through routine monitoring by medical personnel and strict supervision of medication consumption.

“We want the elderly to remain active, healthy, and happy. That is our main focus,” she stressed.

She added that the momentum from the October 2025 case serves as an important step to enhance human rights-based service standards in the social sector, particularly for vulnerable groups like the elderly.
