Once Every Five Years, Now Floods in Cipondoh, Tangerang Can Happen Every Month
TANGERANG – Residents of Kampung Candulan, Petir Ward, Cipondoh District, Tangerang City, are complaining about flooding that now occurs more frequently.
Previously, floods only came once every five years, but now water pooling is said to happen almost every month, especially during heavy rain.
“If in the past it was once every five years, now it’s several times a month. Even during Eid, it flooded three times,” said local resident Rena (39), when met by Kompas.com at the location on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
Every time it rains, brownish water pooling almost always appears.
In addition to the increased frequency, the water height has also risen to the point of entering residents’ homes.
“In the past, it was still standard, not entering the house. But now it’s getting higher,” she said.
She mentioned that floods that used to happen only one or two times a year have now become almost routine every month in the last two years.
Even, according to her, the water height has also increased significantly. If previously only around 50 centimetres, now it can reach more than one metre.
“Now the flood is already at chest level,” she said.
Residents said the water starts rising from midnight until it peaks before dawn.
“The flood starts at 12 midnight (00.00 WIB). We were sleeping, then woke up because the water had risen,” said Oman.
Meanwhile, Rena said the water was actually visible since the afternoon, but it increased drastically at night until it entered the house around 01.00 WIB.
