On the occasion of the 30th Regional Autonomy Day commemoration, Klungkung Regent I Made Satria expressed hope that the central government would grant the broadest possible authority to local regions. According to him, recentralisation of regional autonomy has become an obstacle for local leaders in determining policies that favour residents. One aspect he emphasised is licensing matters, most of which have already been centralised at the central government level.

“We hope that in line with the mandate contained in regional autonomy, the central government grants the broadest possible authority to the regions so that they can manage their own areas as best as possible,” said Satria to detikBali after leading the 30th Regional Autonomy Day commemoration ceremony on Monday (27/4/2026).

Further, Satria explained that recentralisation has become an obstacle for local governments in managing the resources they possess. As an example, he mentioned licensing for Class C mining, which is no longer under regional authority. The same applies to the management of coastal areas, rivers, and other local natural resources.

The politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) stressed that matters which can be handled by local governments should not be interfered with by the centre.

“Do not let central regulations become obstacles when regions want to make maximum efforts in exploring and managing local resources,” Satria asserted firmly.

For Satria, granting management authority to regions is important because it is the regions that know and understand their potentials best. In addition, he views recentralisation as causing delays in the realisation of work that could be carried out quickly by the regions. “We should be able to do it as quickly as possible, but we cannot because we are constrained by such bureaucratic regulations,” he explained.

More specifically, Satria mentioned the authority to manage coastal areas. “We hope that it can be returned to the regions. If authority is granted, we can conduct more exploration. Especially for regions with extensive coastlines like Klungkung,” he added.

Besides that, he also believes that with broader authority, the government will be better able to optimise sources of regional revenue. Especially amid the decline in regional transfers in 2026.

“Therefore, with broader authority, we can maximise the existing sources of regional revenue across our entire territory,” he explained.

Referring to the theme of the 30th Regional Autonomy Day commemoration, Satria also emphasised the commitment of the Klungkung Regency Government in realising Asta Cita. This aligns with the 30th Otda theme ‘With Regional Autonomy, We Realise Asta Cita’.

“The theme symbolises the independence and responsibility of regions in managing local potentials to support collective national aspirations,” Satria concluded.
