In his article published in Republika on March 1, titled "Paradox of dual functions", Jack Yanda Z Ishak seems to be worried about the dual functions of senior political figures in this country. He fears not only the emergence of conflicts of interest but also the abuse of power.

It is interesting to note that while the dual functions practiced by some people representing political parties have become a serious matter and have been attributable, allegedly, to a lack of professionalism on their part, many examples of dual function involving nonparty people have not been commented on.

If Ishak bases his fear on the principles of democracy and a political theory that all relevant experts must be knowledgeable about, the criticism leveled at party people holding dual functions must also apply to nonparty people in the same situation.

Hopefullly, this will clarify the situation.
