In his article published in Republika on March 1, titled
\n\"Paradox of dual functions\", Jack Yanda Z Ishak seems to be
\nworried about the dual functions of senior political figures in
\nthis country. He fears not only the emergence of conflicts of
\ninterest but also the abuse of power.<\/p>\n
It is interesting to note that while the dual functions
\npracticed by some people representing political parties have
\nbecome a serious matter and have been attributable, allegedly, to
\na lack of professionalism on their part, many examples of dual
\nfunction involving nonparty people have not been commented on.<\/p>\n
If Ishak bases his fear on the principles of democracy and a
\npolitical theory that all relevant experts must be knowledgeable
\nabout, the criticism leveled at party people holding dual
\nfunctions must also apply to nonparty people in the same
\nsituation.<\/p>\n
