On-bus entertainment
On-bus entertainment
From Republika
I have made a number of trips by bus from Jakarta to Bandung,
West Java, over the past few weeks. The bus companies seem to be
competing with each other to provide some comfort to their
customers by showing laser disc films during the journey.
On May 4, 1995, at about 10.00 a.m. I was returning to Jakarta
from Bandung by Pribumi Raya bus. They showed two films during
the journey: T-Force and Tough and deadly. It seemed to me that
these films were not censored. Some of the scenes in the films
were quite vulgar and contradictory to religious norms,
especially when there were children present.
I asked the bus conductor to use the remote control device to
control the film and leave out the indecent parts.
I hope that the bus companies carefully choose the films to be
shown so that the entertainment serves its purpose.
