Oman: Diplomatic Doors Remain Open Amid Joint US-Israeli Attacks on Iran
Istanbul (ANTARA) - Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi stated on Sunday (1 March) that diplomatic doors remain open amid US and Israeli attacks on Iran, and called for disputing parties to return to the negotiating table whilst cautioning against abandoning hopes for peace.
“I want to assert very clearly - the doors of diplomacy remain open. Negotiations in Geneva have achieved genuine progress towards an unprecedented agreement between Iran and the United States,” al-Busaidi said on social media platform X.
He stressed that the ongoing conflict must not eliminate prospects for peace.
“War must not mean that hopes for peace fade. I still believe in the power of diplomacy to resolve this conflict. The sooner negotiations resume, the better for everyone,” he added.
Israel and the US launched a combined assault against Iran on Saturday (28 February) morning whilst negotiations between Tehran and Washington were taking place. Oman has acted as a mediator in these talks.
Israel and the US had previously launched attacks against Iran in June 2025, during another round of Iran-US negotiations which were also mediated by Oman.
On Friday (27 February), Oman’s Foreign Minister stated that US-Iran nuclear talks had reached agreement on “zero accumulation” of enriched uranium, including reducing existing stocks to the lowest level and converting them into permanent fuel under full IAEA verification.
He expressed to CBS his belief that “a peace agreement is within our reach” if diplomacy is given the “space needed to achieve it.”
