Olympics champions get award

JAKARTA: The Minister of Education Malik Fadjar has given Jakarta high school student Malik Fadjar Rp 5 million and a computer for his achievement in winning the best "theoretical result" category at the Asian Physics Olympics in Singapore recently.

As well as the SMU 78 Jakarta student, Malik also granted Rp 3 million to each of the bronze medal winners. They are Widagdo of SMUN 1 Denpasar, Evelyn of SMUK 1 BPK Penabur Jakarta, Fadjar Ardian of SMU Insan Cendekia Serpong, C Hendriks of SMU Pelita Harapan Karawaci, and Rangga Perdana of SMU Taruna Nusantara Magelang.

The Asian Physics Olympics, held from May 5 to May 14, involved 15 countries, including Australia, China, Malaysia and Indonesia.

During the Olympics, those senior high students must solve physics problems that were supposed to be given to students studying a bachelor's degree or a master's degrees.

Fachrian, a student of SMUN 78 Jakarta, also achieved an honorable mention at the olympics.

The competition's winners would face bigger challenges at the International Physics Olympics scheduled for Bali in July this year. -- JP
