REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The plan to eliminate credit records below Rp1 million in the Financial Services Information System (SLIK) is seen as capable of expanding financing access, particularly for low-income communities. Deputy CEO of Bank Syariah Indonesia, Bob Tyasika Ananta, stated that the policy represents a positive step so that individuals previously obstructed by small credit histories can once again access financing.

“On principle, this is a positive step in expanding financing access, especially for low-income communities,” he told reporters, quoted on Thursday (16/4/2026).

According to him, problematic credit records, even if in small amounts, have so far been recorded in SLIK and can affect financing access. For information, the Financial Services Information System (SLIK), managed by the Financial Services Authority, is a customer credit history recording system used by banks as one of the references in assessing financing eligibility.

Nevertheless, Bob emphasised that SLIK is not the sole determining factor. The primary assessment remains the repayment capacity of prospective customers.

“The more important aspect is the repayment capacity of prospective customers,” he said.

In line with the planned policy change, BSI will make adjustments to its financing assessment process, including strengthening internal risk profile schemes. He added that the company is still awaiting further technical guidance from the regulator regarding the policy’s implementation. With these adjustments, BSI hopes that the expansion of financing access can proceed without neglecting the principle of prudence in credit disbursement.
