OJK Responds to MNC Bank Customers’ Difficulties Making Transactions
JAKARTA — MNC Bank has recently come under scrutiny on social media after reports that it was unable to process customers’ digital transactions and cash withdrawals prompted widespread complaints. In response, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) said there were no serious problems at the bank, but confirmed that it was continuing to monitor it closely.
“We are keeping a close eye on the situation and coordinating with the bank, its owner and its management. There are absolutely no serious issues at this bank, including anything related to solvency,” said Dian Ediana Rae, OJK’s Chief Executive for Banking Supervision, on the sidelines of the fourth Annual Islamic Banking Meeting (PTBS), part of the Indonesia Islamic Finance Summit (IIFS) 2026, in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Tuesday (3 November 2026).
Dian said MNC Bank had a fairly good track record. Even if particular problems arose, such as technical or liquidity issues, he said they could be resolved quickly because they were not serious. The bank was therefore expected to return to normal operations.
“It can be said that this is a fairly good bank, and it has never had a bad reputation, let alone defaulted on its obligations to customers,” he stressed.
Dian said the key issue behind the controversy was how the public, especially customers, responded to difficulties such as being unable to make transactions. He urged people not to accept unverified information circulating on social media.
“What matters most, in my view, is that the public should communicate directly with their bank and not speculate or listen to rumours. Banking is, by its nature, a business built on trust. This should serve as a lesson: attacks carried out through social media can be very dangerous,” he said.
