OJK Issues QR Code Identification for Insurance Sales Agents to Combat Fraudulent Operators
Jakarta — Insurance agents are now required by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to use QR codes to verify their legitimacy. Consumers can scan the barcode to confirm that the agent is registered in OJK’s Integrated Licensing and Registration System (SPRINT).
Ogi Prastomiyono, Head of Insurance, Guarantee and Pension Supervision at OJK, stated that as of 31 January 2026, 304,950 insurance agents have been registered with OJK and possess QR codes as official agent identification, covering agents in the life insurance, general insurance, and Islamic insurance sectors.
“The implementation of this policy is proceeding well with the support of industry associations and insurance companies in the process of socialising the policy to agents and the public,” Ogi said in a written response.
With this development, OJK together with associations continues to evaluate and refine the system to ensure that the agent registration and verification process runs effectively and transparently.
Based on January 2026 data, the agency and bancassurance distribution channels remain the main contributors to insurance premiums, with shares of approximately 22.09% (agency) and 26.21% (bancassurance) of total life insurance premiums across all distribution channels.
Going forward, both channels are expected to remain the main sources of premium growth for the industry in 2026. The bancassurance channel has the potential to grow relatively stably due to the strong bank customer base and integration of financial services, whilst the agency channel still has growth opportunities through improving agent productivity and expanding product protection penetration among the public.
