OJK Executive Head for Insurance, Guarantee, and Pension Fund Supervision, Ogi Prastomiyono, hopes that gold exchange-traded fund (ETF) products or gold-based mutual funds can become investment alternatives for the insurance and pension fund sectors. He stated that insurance and pension fund industry players are expected to enhance their investment capabilities through long-term products, one of which is gold.

OJK has previously issued POJK Number 2 of 2026 on Mutual Funds in the Form of Collective Investment Contracts whose Participation Units are Traded on the Stock Exchange with Underlying Assets in the Form of Gold.

“That will give rise to gold-based ETF products that can be purchased by insurance companies as well as pension funds, so that the investment allocation of pension funds and insurance can also enter the capital market because it offers quite good alternative returns,” he told the media at The Ritz-Carlton, Jakarta, on Monday, 13 April 2026.

Ogi revealed that OJK is also in discussions with asset management companies so that the insurance and pension fund sectors can delve deeper into the capital market. These discussions also explore potential investment products that can provide guaranteed returns, allowing investment risks to be mitigated more effectively.

Nevertheless, Ogi emphasised that investments in the insurance and pension fund sectors must maintain a balance between risks and the returns obtained. “But it must be balanced between risks and better returns, which we hope that pension funds and insurance companies can have more balanced alternatives in managing their investments,” he said.

OJK records that the total assets of the insurance, guarantee, and pension fund sectors as of the end of February 2026 have reached Rp 2,992 trillion, or grown by 9.94% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the investment value reached Rp 2,313 trillion, or grew by 7.94% year-on-year.
