Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) is encouraging women’s tangible contributions to strengthening national development governance through the momentum of Kartini Day commemorations.

Chair of the Audit Board and OJK Commissioner Sophia Wattimena, in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday, reminded that women’s roles are increasingly strategic in strengthening governance, both in the public sector and the financial services sector.

However, this increased role still faces various challenges, including issues of equality and gender-based violence.

“In the bureaucracy, around 57 per cent of civil servants are women. At the same time, throughout 2025, more than 1,000 cases of gender-based violence were recorded, with around 80 per cent of the victims being women,” said Sophia.

She added that women have a fundamental contribution to building generations of integrity, among other things through their role as the first educators in the family, role models in social life, and household economic managers, so integrity must be instilled from an early age and started from the family environment.

Furthermore, Sophia also emphasised the key role of women in supporting government priority programmes, particularly the fourth Astacita on strengthening human resource development and gender equality, as well as the seventh Astacita on governance reform, law enforcement, and eradicating corruption.

OJK continues to strengthen a culture of integrity at work by inviting all stakeholders to emulate the spirit of RA Kartini’s struggle, particularly in building an independent attitude, courage to think critically, and steadfastness in upholding moral values, ethics, accountability, and responsibility.

On Monday, OJK held a lecture series titled “Kartini Inspires: Independent Spirit, Steadfast in Integrity” at the Pendopo Museum RA Kartini, Rembang, Central Java.

The event was attended by 220 participants in person and around 4,500 participants online from ministries/institutions, members of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), financial industry players, academics, women figures, students, and OJK employees.

Through this event, OJK reaffirmed its commitment to implementing clean and integrity-based governance, among other things through certification of the Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP) in all work units, consistent control of gratuities, and synergy with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in producing certified anti-corruption educators.

OJK also encourages Indonesian women, particularly in the financial services sector environment, to actively participate in strengthening the anti-fraud culture, understanding prohibitions on gratuities, and utilising the Whistleblowing System (WBS) channel in reporting suspected ethical violations and indications of fraud, in order to realise a healthy, inclusive, and trusted financial services sector.
