OJK Chief Reveals Results of Meetings with MSCI and FTSE Index Providers
Jakarta – An OJK (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan) Board Member who oversees crypto assets and serves as interim capital markets supervisor, Hasan Fawzi, has disclosed significant outcomes from meetings with global index service providers MSCI and FTSE.
“Regarding follow-up developments from notes provided by global index providers, we have coordinated with MSCI and FTSE, so we understand these are demands not specific to just one index provider,” Hasan explained at the Capital Market Reform: Integrity and Credibility event on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.
Hasan noted that throughout February, at least four meetings were held spanning leadership, analyst, and technical levels. “We have stated that communication channels remain open and constructive, even at the technical level,” he clarified.
Hasan outlined four principal proposals that have been agreed upon. First, the introduction of more transparent shareholder ownership data for publicly listed companies with greater granularity from KSEI, where investor classification types will increase from the previous nine to 28 categories.
Secondly, regulators will disclose investors holding stakes above 1%, lowered from the previous 5% threshold. Thirdly, the regulator will promote deeper market penetration and wider public participation through minimum free float requirements, incrementally raising the current 7.5% threshold to a minimum of 15%.
Fourth, regulators will introduce a shareholder concentration list, which will facilitate investor consideration of concentration risks and assist in evaluating share availability in the market.
Regarding responses from MSCI and FTSE, Hasan stated that whilst the meetings were conducted confidentially, the OJK and other regulators were permitted to communicate progress. “Overall, the meetings with MSCI and FTSE were constructive,” Hasan stated.
Hasan further emphasised that one of the principal reform efforts will commence today, specifically the provision of more granular data.
