Malang (ANTARA) — The Financial Services Authority (OJK) office in Malang, East Java, has collaborated with the local National Zakat Agency (Baznas) to hold a financial literacy programme targeting one thousand orphans and underprivileged individuals in the area.

“In line with OJK’s priority of improving financial literacy and inclusion among vulnerable groups, this activity is expected to serve as a concrete step in equipping children with a basic understanding of financial management that will benefit their future,” said OJK Malang Head Farid Faletehan in a statement in Malang on Sunday.

Through this training, he said, participants are expected to grow into a generation capable of utilising financial knowledge as a foundation for achieving a more empowered future.

The financial literacy programme for the one thousand orphans and underprivileged individuals was packaged as part of the “Gebyar Malam Lailatul Qadar” (Lailatul Qadar Evening Celebration) event.

The event was attended by Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat, East Java Provincial Baznas Chairman Ali Maschan Moesa, Malang City Baznas Chairman Kasuwi Saiban, and Bank Indonesia Malang Representative Office Head Indra Kuspriyadi.

The activity forms part of the GERAK Syariah programme — the OJK Malang Ramadan Islamic Finance Celebration — and serves as a momentum to strengthen Islamic financial literacy and inclusion among the younger generation, particularly those from vulnerable groups.

The event began with Islamic financial education from OJK Malang. Participants were introduced to OJK’s duties and functions, basic financial management, and Islamic financial products.

Meanwhile, the Bank Indonesia Malang Representative Office also provided education on the “Love, Pride, and Understanding of the Rupiah” programme.

Bank Jatim Syariah, representing financial services industry players, also delivered education on Islamic financial products such as the Santri Savings Account and Cash Waqf Linked Deposit (CWLD).

“The realisation of this activity would not have been possible without the collaboration of all elements involved. We hope this event can serve as an encouragement and a strengthening of hope for orphans and the underprivileged,” said Malang City Baznas Chairman Kasuwi Saiban.

Meanwhile, Malang Mayor Wahyu Hidayat said the Malang City Government is committed to strengthening the education sector as a foundation so that the younger generation can continue to grow, learn, and become independent and competitive individuals.
