Jakarta — Jakarta’s celebration of Nyepi Day on 19 March will be centred at Hotel Indonesia Roundabout in Central Jakarta, with the staging of an ogoh-ogoh procession.

“At Hotel Indonesia Roundabout during Nyepi, we will hold an ogoh-ogoh procession and install penjor here. Possibly penjor has never been installed at Hotel Indonesia Roundabout before. We will install penjor at Hotel Indonesia Roundabout,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo in Central Jakarta on Friday (27 February).

Pramono stated that all religions must be treated equally in Jakarta. He frequently emphasises that he is governor for all people.

For this reason, Pramono wants all major religious celebrations to be observed in Jakarta, ranging from Christmas last year, Chinese New Year, Ramadhan, Eid al-Fitr, to Nyepi.

Suharini Eliawati, Assistant for Economy and Finance of the Jakarta Provincial Secretariat, outlined that the committee will organise a series of activities divided into four main clusters: religious activities (Melasti, Tawur Agung Kesanga, Nyepi, Ngembak Geni), social and community activities, cultural festivals and education, including the ogoh-ogoh parade and Dharma Santi as a post-Nyepi gathering.

The entire series of events will be held at locations spread across North Jakarta, East Jakarta, and Central Jakarta.

Melasti is scheduled for 15 March 2026 at Pura Segara (North Jakarta) and will be attended by Hindu congregants across Jakarta. Meanwhile, Tawur Agung will take place on 18 March 2026 at Pura Aditya Jaya Rawamangun.

Additionally, the committee will organise social and cultural activities, including blood donation drives and free medical treatment, financial literacy and small business seminars, cultural festivals and ogoh-ogoh parades in public spaces, supporting Jakarta’s image as a tolerant and culturally diverse city.
