Ogoh-ogoh Parade Incident in Mataram: Child Scalded by Hot Broth
A video showing the scalded leg of a young girl in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), after being splashed with hot broth has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred when her parents’ market stall was bumped during the ogoh-ogoh parade on Wednesday (18/3/2026). Based on the 38-second video circulating, the stall belonging to the vendor appears scattered after being hit by the ogoh-ogoh. The hot broth on the table spilled and hit the vendor’s child. The recording also shows an argument between local residents and parade participants. “Be careful, sir. This one is a sign, sir,” said a woman in the video, as seen by detikBali on Friday (20/3/2026). The Lombok Hindu Youth Alliance responded to the viral video via their Instagram account. The Indonesian Hindu Dharma Parishad (PHDI) NTB assured that they will take responsibility for the incident. General Chairman of the Lombok Hindu Youth Alliance, I Nyoman Loji Sagita, urged the public and media not to stir up the atmosphere with untrue information. “We urge the media and netizens not to create or spread hoax news. This issue has been resolved peacefully, and both parties have reached an agreement,” he said, when confirmed by detikBali on Friday (20/3/2026). “This incident should become a momentum to strengthen values of tolerance, mutual respect, and maintaining harmony amid societal diversity,” he added. The parade committee and participants are known to have visited the victim’s home and expressed willingness to take responsibility for the losses suffered by the vendor. The committee will also cover the victim’s treatment until recovery. Chairman of STT Jeruk Manis, I Gede Suadnyana Putra, expressed apologies for the incident. “We convey our deepest apologies for this incident. In the future, we will be more careful so that similar events do not recur,” he said. In agreement, Chairman of the Ogoh-Ogoh Parade Committee, Made Krisna Yuda Prasetya, stated that this incident serves as important evaluation material. “This event is an evaluation for us so that future parades can be more orderly, safe, and considerate of the surrounding environment, including MSME actors,” he said.
