Officials up to Mataram Mayor use bus to DPRD to demonstrate efficiency commitment
The Mataram City Government has implemented a policy requiring all echelon II officials to use bicycles to commute to the office. Mataram (ANTARA) - Officials up to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mataram demonstrated serious commitment to implementing the central government’s instructions on budget efficiency by using an operational bus to collectively head to the local DPRD building to attend the plenary session agenda. Mataram Mayor Mohan Roliskana in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara Province, on Thursday, stated that the collective use of the bus serves as a concrete step in implementing the central government’s policy. “This is one of the efforts we are undertaking at the local level to achieve efficiency in fuel oil (BBM) and official vehicle usage,” he said when met during the bus ride prepared by the General Affairs Section. Regarding the central government’s policy, the mayor has instructed all ranks of officials within the city government to take concrete steps to reduce regional expenditure, particularly BBM usage. Indeed, the Mataram City Government has already implemented a policy for all echelon II officials to use bicycles to go to the office, which is also a step towards efficiency. The mayor believes that the steps taken collectively with all ranks will have a real impact on regional budget efficiency. The implemented policy is not merely for show, but a form of regional accountability in implementing the central policy. “Efficiency must start from the top leadership and central officials in the Mataram City Government,” he said. The mayor stated that this transition is not easy, but changing habits from using comfortable official vehicles to simpler modes of transportation certainly requires extra effort. Therefore, even though the officials must endure some hardship commuting to the office by bicycle, this is once again a form of our endeavour and responsibility as a local government. “We remain committed to implementing this policy with full responsibility,” he said. Meanwhile, regarding how long the policy will be applied, the mayor said it will be evaluated after one month to determine the extent of efficiency that can be achieved. The mayor has asked the Mataram City Regional Secretary (Sekda) to calculate the reduction in BBM expenditure and vehicle maintenance, so that every innovation and initiative undertaken has measurable success indicators. “For how long, we are ready to follow the directions from the central government,” he said.
