Officials' assets
Officials' assets
From Jurnal Indonesia
I was quite startled upon learning that members of the Audit Commission of Officials' Assets (KPKPN) would be installed in the near future because in my opinion the KPKPN's formation isn't final yet, meaning there is still a dispute between the legislative and the executive institutions.
Some time ago the legislative body decided that the commission should consist of 45 persons. However, many circles are of opinion that some of KPKPN's nominated members are indecent and have poor track records.
But not long thereafter, the government unilaterally selected 25 people to be KPKPN members. There was of course a reaction from the House of Representatives (DPR) because the it had proposed 45 names. Moreover the government's decision was made without prior consultation with the DPR. This means there is still a "problem" with the KPKPN's membership.
Factually, I don't question the disagreement between the government and the legislative body in respect of the KPKPN issue. The question is, are the KPKPN members really clean as some were former civil servants and we know our civil servants are extremely liable to corruption, collusion and nepotism. How can they then investigate government officials' assets?
Therefore, the problem of the KPKPN membership should be well noted. In addition, the legislative and executive institutions need to have a serious talk on determining the KPKPN members. This is important to avoid unwanted problems when the KPKPN starts to perform its tasks.
