I was quite startled upon learning that members of the Audit
\nCommission of Officials' Assets (KPKPN) would be installed in the
\nnear future because in my opinion the KPKPN's formation isn't
\nfinal yet, meaning there is still a dispute between the
\nlegislative and the executive institutions.<\/p>\n
Some time ago the legislative body decided that the commission
\nshould consist of 45 persons. However, many circles are of
\nopinion that some of KPKPN's nominated members are indecent and
\nhave poor track records.<\/p>\n
But not long thereafter, the government unilaterally selected
\n25 people to be KPKPN members. There was of course a reaction
\nfrom the House of Representatives (DPR) because the it had
\nproposed 45 names. Moreover the government's decision was made
\nwithout prior consultation with the DPR. This means there is
\nstill a \"problem\" with the KPKPN's membership.<\/p>\n
Factually, I don't question the disagreement between the
\ngovernment and the legislative body in respect of the KPKPN
\nissue. The question is, are the KPKPN members really clean as
\nsome were former civil servants and we know our civil servants
\nare extremely liable to corruption, collusion and nepotism. How
\ncan they then investigate government officials' assets?<\/p>\n
Therefore, the problem of the KPKPN membership should be well
\nnoted. In addition, the legislative and executive institutions
\nneed to have a serious talk on determining the KPKPN members.
\nThis is important to avoid unwanted problems when the KPKPN
\nstarts to perform its tasks.<\/p>\n
