I was shocked, dejected and furious on hearing that convict Eddy Tansil (also known as Tan Tjoe Hong) walked out of Cipinang penitentiary. It was reported earlier that Eddy Tansil received extraordinary treatment in the prison. His room was equipped with a television, cassette player, electric fan and refrigerator. He was also allowed to have a cellular phone and to subscribe to some newspapers.
He was excellent at deceiving both high-ranking and lower echelon civil servants. This incident must be taken to illustrate how poorly executed our administration is. The case is reminiscent of Robby Cahyadi's escape from prison. He was involved in the Kanindotex case and was a notorious luxury-car smuggler.
I cannot help questioning the morality and professionalism of Indonesian bureaucrats. The state and the people have suffered a great loss from this ugly maneuver of Eddy Tansil.
Millions of small entrepreneurs struggle daily just to get minuscule credit to survive. I deplore the abuse of power by personnel who are supposed to uphold the law. I want an official to voluntarily resign for failing to execute his duty.
