I was shocked, dejected and furious on hearing that convict
\nEddy Tansil (also known as Tan Tjoe Hong) walked out of Cipinang
\npenitentiary. It was reported earlier that Eddy Tansil received
\nextraordinary treatment in the prison. His room was equipped with
\na television, cassette player, electric fan and refrigerator. He
\nwas also allowed to have a cellular phone and to subscribe to
\nsome newspapers.<\/p>\n
He was excellent at deceiving both high-ranking and lower
\nechelon civil servants. This incident must be taken to illustrate
\nhow poorly executed our administration is. The case is
\nreminiscent of Robby Cahyadi's escape from prison. He was
\ninvolved in the Kanindotex case and was a notorious luxury-car
\nsmuggler.<\/p>\n
I cannot help questioning the morality and professionalism of
\nIndonesian bureaucrats. The state and the people have suffered a
\ngreat loss from this ugly maneuver of Eddy Tansil.<\/p>\n
Millions of small entrepreneurs struggle daily just to get
\nminuscule credit to survive. I deplore the abuse of power by
\npersonnel who are supposed to uphold the law. I want an official
\nto voluntarily resign for failing to execute his duty.<\/p>\n
