Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - PT Pertamina (Persero) through Pertamina Patra Niaga has adjusted the prices of non-subsidised Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) types such as 5.5 kilograms (kg) and 12 kg as of 18 April. Meanwhile, the price of 3 kg LPG in the field remains unchanged for now.

Vice President Corporate Communication at Pertamina, Muhammad Baron, explained that the price adjustment for these non-subsidised products is to maintain a balance between international market conditions and the sustainability of domestic energy supply.

“The adjustment to non-subsidised LPG prices (Bright Gas) for 12 kg and 5.5 kg as of 18 April takes into account developments in global energy prices and the rupiah exchange rate, as well as to ensure the sustainability of energy supply,” he stated to CNBC Indonesia, quoted on Wednesday (22/4).

Baron elaborated that over the past few years, the company has endeavoured to keep prices stable despite rising trends in the international market. The current price increase decision has been evaluated against market dynamics.

“For several years, Pertamina has maintained stable prices amid rising international market trends, so this adjustment is a measured step that considers the prevailing conditions,” he added.

Meanwhile, Pertamina assures that the supply of subsidised 3 kg LPG cylinders will continue to be distributed normally at stable prices. The company urges the able-bodied public to use non-subsidised products so that government energy subsidies are more targeted.

“Pertamina ensures that 3 kg subsidised LPG is distributed appropriately and urges the public who can afford it to use non-subsidised LPG so that subsidy allocation can be more effective and benefit those who deserve it,” he concluded.

Based on CNBC Indonesia’s reporting in the South Tangerang area, the price of subsidised 3 kg LPG remains the same, priced around Rp19,000 per cylinder up to Rp22,000 per cylinder. “Not increased yet, still the same,” said a shopkeeper in the South Tangerang area, quoted on Wednesday (22/4).
