OCBC Highlights Investment Diversification Opportunities for Affluent Clients

Affluent clients in Indonesia still tend to choose government bonds as an investment instrument because they are considered more conservative.

Jakarta (ANTARA) — PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk has highlighted opportunities for affluent clients to diversify across financial instruments, as demand grows for wealth management that takes account of risk and liquidity needs.

OCBC Premier Banking Segment Head Stephanie M Kristanto said affluent clients in Indonesia still tend to favour government bonds as a more conservative investment instrument. However, around 68 per cent of high-net-worth individuals plan to increase their exposure to private equity investment products beyond conventional offerings.

“Quite a number choose government bonds as their investment product. Bonds are more conservative, and this makes them the main choice for clients,” Stephanie said at the launch of OCBC Premier One in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Stephanie said a survey conducted by several banks in 2025 found that around 44 per cent of affluent clients’ investments in Indonesia were placed in gold. A further 33 per cent was allocated to term investments and 31 per cent to managed investments, which may include mutual funds.

According to Stephanie, the amount of funds under management also affects the breadth of investment solutions that can be offered to clients. The more funds managed, the greater the opportunity to receive a wider range of investment recommendations, including alternative products.

Clients with greater wealth have the opportunity to access certain asset classes, such as private equity and hedge funds. Clients with lower levels of wealth may not have the same access to these instruments.

Although bonds remain the main choice, Stephanie said investment management should not focus on a single instrument. Clients, she said, need a more diverse range of financial solutions suited to their needs and risk profiles.

She explained that wealth management is not only about seeking returns, but also involves mitigating risk and ensuring liquidity.

“What matters in financial management is not only seeking returns, but also how we mitigate risk and how much liquidity clients have,” she said.

Stephanie stressed that investment recommendations must still be tailored to clients’ needs. Wealth management strategies are therefore determined not only by the amount of funds involved, but also by the complexity of the solutions required.

This also presents an opportunity for premier banking services to meet increasingly diverse wealth management needs.

To address the needs of affluent consumers, OCBC is seeking to provide a more curated wealth management strategy, with financial product recommendations that take clients’ needs into account while balancing potential returns, risk mitigation and liquidity.
