Nusron: Prabowo Still Seeks to Pursue Peace Through the Board of Peace
President Prabowo Subianto is still said to be pursuing peace through the Board of Peace, or Council of Peace (BoP). Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Nusron Wahid conveyed this stance in response to calls for Indonesia to withdraw from the organisation established by United States President Donald Trump.
Nusron revealed that Prabowo still wants to pursue this through the Board of Peace. ‘The President’s position is that the Indonesian people have accepted BoP as a means, as an endeavour towards peace,’ Nusron said after Prabowo’s breaking of the fast with Muslim leaders at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on the evening of Thursday, 5 March 2026.
Prabowo, Nusron said, wishes to try this endeavour. ‘We must not be asked to withdraw before the endeavour has even been attempted,’ he noted.
Nusron said the government is aware of criticisms urging Indonesia to withdraw from the BoP, arguing that the United States, the initiator of the endeavour, has itself begun a war with Iran. ‘If there are one or two who still hold such views, we respect them,’ he added.
Nusron said the government is not anti-criticism. ‘We listen while assessing the situation, but we will prove on the ground that this diplomacy is the best way to create peace. Not through war,’ he said.
Separately, Nusron said Prabowo has also heard the suggestion. ‘The President also questions what forum we would discuss it in if someone proposes we push for withdrawal from BoP; what forum, what arena would this peace-building negotiation take place?’ he said.
Currently, Nusron said, the Board of Peace is the only negotiation table for peace in Palestine and Gaza. Therefore, Indonesia agreed to join.
Prabowo invited hundreds of Muslim figures to break the fast at the Presidential Palace. At breaking time, President Prabowo led the breaking of the fast with three senior leaders of Islamic organisations: Miftachul Achyar, Rais Aam of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU); Haedar Nashir, General Chairman of Muhammadiyah; and Anwar Iskandar, General Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
The discussion event with other participants was held after the breaking of the fast.
According to Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan, Prabowo gave a briefing to participants from 20:00 to 23:00 WIB. The briefing covered various issues, including the escalation of the war between the United States and Israel against Iran, and lasted until 23:00 WIB. ‘Three hours of briefing,’ he said.
A number of figures from various Islamic organisations were invited to join Prabowo for the breaking of the fast. Among those present were Yahya Cholil Staquf, Chairman of the PBNU, and Habib Hanif Alatas, Secretary of the Shura Council of the DPP Front Persaudaraan Islam (FPI).
